Tom Dixon NewsletterJust received a Tom Dixon newsletter and I was pleased to find out that there are great new pieces from the line now available in the US.  I absolutely love the clean, industrial look – not too stark modern, not traditional.  For more information on their products check out their website.

Tom Dixon Club Sofa

Tom Dixon Club Sofa

I’ve been working on decorating my new loft apartment so I have been out and about to see what’s new out there in the decorating world.  I was please to find out that the Tom Dixon upholstery furniture is now available through George Smith, and I absolutely love the Club Sofa.  By the way, George Smith is the creme de la creme in the upholstery world.

The  great thing with ordering through George Smith is you can order your sofa COM.  For those of you who don’t know – COM means “Customer’s Own Material” – you can pick any fabric you like for your upholstery piece.  They also carry a wide range of beautiful fabrics you can choose from.

I decided to go with a Holly Hunt’s Peace of Mind Linen in Cool Breeze.  I can’t wait!

All of Tom Dixon’s upholstery pieces can be ordered through George Smith.  Here a a few pics of what they offer:

Hmmm.  Now, I need some great pillows…  Stay tuned!

Here are links to the Club Sofa and to Tom Dixon by George Smith’s Website:

Global Sustainable Design from Israel

Thursday, September 17th, 2009
Workshop Bissili Pole
Mesila’s Booksham Buttons

At Cheeky Living we’re not only big fans of global design, but environmental design as well.  That’s why we were pleased to find Mesila, an Israeli studio that specializes in sustainable design.

Based in Tel Aviv, and created by Shlomit Levy, Avital Levy and Ifat Zvirin, Mesila is a unique design studio that aims to influence people to live a more socially and environmentally responsible life by designing sustainable products. All of Mesila’s designers carefully choose their design materials using an eco-design strategy which minimizes their ecological footprint.

Instead of creating an infinite number of products, the designers at Mesila studio like to give the materials they use an infinite lifespan by taking old discarded materials and turning them into something new.

At Cheeky Living, we’ve also been a fan of turning something old into something new. But this design process isn’t limited to the materials. We like to create items and environments that have a classic design. This way, our products can continue to be beautiful and fashionable year after year.

Out of the Ordinary Bath Decor

Butterfly Inspired Powder Room

I came across a post on Apartment Therapy today about interesting bath decor featured on The Selby. It reminded me of a powder room I did recently.  The bathroom had black and white tile. To dress things up a bit I painted the walls in a black semi-gloss and then plastered the walls with butterfly pics I picked up at the Chatuchak Market in Bangkok.

Tom Dixon Lighting – Industrial, Modern, Fantastic!

Tom Dixon Beat Lights

Tom Dixon Beat Lights

We’ve been on hiatus for about 2 weeks while moving to our new industrial loft just outside of NYC.  I’ve been on the hunt for cool, light fixtures.  Tom Dixon’s lighting is a must have…

Available in four sizes, Tom Dixon’s beat lights were inspired by water carrying vessels.  A wonderful patina black on the outside and a hand beaten brass on the inside these fixtures can be mixed and matched to make wonderful configurations.

Available in the US through ABC Carpet and Home.

Linn Classik

Monday, March 27th, 2006

Linn ClassikQuality of life and quality of sound are two of the most important issues for us at the Cheeky. Often, they are at odds with one another when we’re contemplating a new sound rig for our new pad, but we’ve been able to find a solution that pleases both the audiophile and decorating-phile. Slimdevices Squeezebox Music Server

Thursday, February 9th, 2006

Slimdevices Squeezebox Music ServerThings need not be expensive to be cheeky… it just happens to turn out that way most of the time. Here is one cheeky piece that is about the same price as a lowly iPod; the Slimdevices Squeezebox. Imagine having a music server that talks to your PC, seamlessly arranging and delivering the music library to your stereo system, with fidelity that’s about as good as possible from your hard drive. Apple MacBook Pro

Thursday, February 9th, 2006

Apple MacBook ProI’ve had a Mac PowerBook G4 since the titanium versions came out in 2001, and now, I finally have a reason to upgrade. The MacBook Pro is a giant step for Apple with the switch to the Intel Core Duo processor. Who would have thought these two Silicon Valley stalwarts would ever have this partnership? (more…)

VPI Aries 2 Black Knight Turntable

VPI Aries 2 Black Knight Turntable
My iPod sounds like listening to music in a tin can. This is a device of convenience (a role which it plays extremely well) rather than a music maker. For anyone that thinks that their iPod sounds fantastic, come on over to the Cheekyliving studios and get a taste of vinyl. You heard it right moFo, vinyl is coming back in a big way and for one simple reason – it does the business. (more…)

LaCie External 250GB Hard Drive Design by F.A. Porsche

Thursday, February 2nd, 2006

LaCie External 250GB Hard Drive Design by F.A. PorscheFinally, you can have your own Porsche. I’m not talking about a 911 or the hot new Cayman. I’m talking about the stainless steel external hard-drive designed by the creatives at Porsche Designs.

The drive is fast (7200 rpm) with two FireWire ports for daisy-chaining and a 8MB cache so you can backup all of your pr0n and illegally downloaded music in no time. An on/off switch lets you put the drive to rest when it’s not in use. (more…)
