Tom Dixon Club Sofa
I’ve been working on decorating my new loft apartment so I have been out and about to see what’s new out there in the decorating world. I was please to find out that the Tom Dixon upholstery furniture is now available through George Smith, and I absolutely love the Club Sofa. By the way, George Smith is the creme de la creme in the upholstery world.
The great thing with ordering through George Smith is you can order your sofa COM. For those of you who don’t know – COM means “Customer’s Own Material” – you can pick any fabric you like for your upholstery piece. They also carry a wide range of beautiful fabrics you can choose from.
I decided to go with a Holly Hunt’s Peace of Mind Linen in Cool Breeze. I can’t wait!
All of Tom Dixon’s upholstery pieces can be ordered through George Smith. Here a a few pics of what they offer:
Hmmm. Now, I need some great pillows… Stay tuned!
Here are links to the Club Sofa and to Tom Dixon by George Smith’s Website:

Lamp - After
I’ve been working on decorating a girl’s room for a client. One of the last items on our list was to find a stylish lamp for her room. After scouring many of the various lighting companies out there and coming up with nothing, I decided to look into my treasure closet of vintage finds – and there it was – a white ceramic pineapple lamp I had pick up from an Antique Dealer in Buenos Aires. Modern and stylish, my client and I decided it would be perfect – but the black lampshade had to go….

Lamp - Before
After scouring through a few wallpaper sources, we found a great Cole and Son’s David Hicks wallpaper – and decided it was the way to go. I ordered the wallpaper and took it to a custom lampshade workroom. We decided to do an oversized shade- to give it a little more height and show off more of the wonderful wallpaper we selected… and VOILA! A really hip wonderful lamp to accent a very adorable little girls’ room.

Chair - Before
I’ve decided to declare Fridays - before and after day at Cheeky Living! Each friday I will post a before and after transformation of a piece of furniture.
Our first before and after is of a vintage modern lounge chair I found at the Plaza Dorrego flea market in Buenos Aires. The chair had a dirty, dingy mustard yellow velvet fabric on it – probably had not been cleaned in 30 years. This chair definitely had potential.

Chair - After
I decided to go with a dark gray velvet fabric which would look nice with a bold colorful pillow on it. The velvet fabric gives is a rich 1940’s look and to jazz things up even more I used black velvet fabric for the welting on the seat and back.
If you have a piece of furniture that needs a makeover and would like some help, email a pic and we’ll post your project on Cheeky Living for everyone to enjoy!

While on a recent trip to Los Angeles, I came across Krislyn Design Studio. I was mesmerized by their wonderful floral arrangements in their window. Inside their shop, I became enchanted by their wonderful assortment of tabletop pieces, floral arrangement and their tree sculpture pieces. They do commissions and events too! And are willing to ship anywhere. I might have to pick one up next time I am in LA. Krislyn Boutique and Design Studio. 8216 West 3rd Street, Los Angeles. Tel No. 323.692.7862

I’ve been visiting LA this week and came across some great design shops:

Oak and Vellum Chest from Mecox Gardens
1.
Mecox Gardens – Much like the its’ sister shops, Mecox has great furniture pieces including R&Y Augousti and Oly Studio furniture. There are also great accessories such as and coffee table books galore. 919 N. La Cienega Blvd. 310.358.9272.

Gold Truffle Table from Paul Marra
2.
Paul Marra – Found lots of great lighting as well as interesting made to order pieces. My favorite are the Truffle Tables – which are tree roots encrusted in 24K gold leaf over red clay. 868 N. La Cienega Blvd. 310.659.8190

Jean de Merry's Aland Wing Chair
3.
Jean de Merry – is a beautiful showroom with wonderfully tasteful modern furniture pieces. Their use of interesting finishes such as shagreen, parchment and leather makes their handcrafted pieces irresistable. This wing chair’s wonderful shaped back would be a great addition to a library or reading room. 927 N. La Cienega Blvd. 310.289.1688.

I had been out and about New York City a few weeks ago looking for rugs for a project I’m working on in Tribeca. I visited several shops and ended up selecting a few pieces at my favorite rug source – Carini Lang. I’ve known the owner, Joe for many years and he undoubtedly has the the nicest, most luxurious handwoven rugs on the market. My client agrees with me. Their showroom is an old bank in Tribeca which is always a pleasure to visit.
